MITCHELL, Neb. – Andrea Lee Johnson, 60, of Mitchell, died peacefully in the presence of her loving husband, her son and her beloved dogs, on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Andrew Griess officiating. Casual dress is welcomed and a reception will follow the service at the church. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Andrea’s wishes.  

The service will be livestreamed and recorded to Andrea’s obituary page viewable at www.reverencefuneralparlor.com. Memorials may be made to the Festival of Hope.

Andrea was born July 26, 1962, in Colorado Springs to Sandra Hankins. She graduated from Torrington High School in 1980.

Andrea married James “Jay” Johnson on August 16, 1986. Two sons were born to this union: Michael and Tony.  

Andrea and Jay owned and operated an ambulance service in Wheatland for fourteen years. They later made their home in Rapid City, South Dakota where she worked at West Central Manufacturing as an office manager. The couple moved to Mitchell in 2022 and Andrea became employed at Regional West Medical Center until her sudden cancer diagnosis.

Andrea dedicated her life to the betterment of others. She was the first to help anyone in need and she constantly gave of her many talents. It could be the gift of a delicious baked treat, a beautifully crocheted blanket or providing a gentle, kind, listening ear when no one else would. Andrea enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, especially the Black Hills. Many memories were made while camping, cooking and exploring nature on a motorcycle or side by side.

Family was everything to Andrea.  She was the biggest supporter of her husband, kids and grandchildren.  Andrea was also a “Mom” to many others in her life who were blessed by her nurturing spirit.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Jay Johnson; sons, Mike (Melissa) Johnson and Tony (Amanda) Johnson; grandchildren, Brayden, Kaylee, Hunter and Tate Johnson  and Zayden, AraLynn, Delysia and Ireland Johnson; father, Marvin (Virginia) Rieb; in-laws, Bob and Norma Busch; sister, Shellee Wells; brothers-in-law, Bob (Kristi) Busch and Kendall (Trisha) Busch; niece, Dakota Wells; nephew, Dante Wells; special friends, Tim Corley and Heide Unger; along with extended family members and friends.

 Andrea was preceded in death by her grandparents; mother, Sandra  and aunts and uncles.
