A new Curry in Mountain West Farm Bureau

Posted

TORRINGTON – Torrington native Grant Curry returned to serve his hometown of Torrington in May of this year to keep his father’s business moving forward.

Grant’s father, Chuck, passed away Sept. 28, 2019, after running the local Farm Bureau Financial Services office for 31 years. Grant and his father were very close.

“Dad and I were best friends. We talked everyday about our businesses. We never knew that I would follow in his steps and always thought that I would end up making my own path,” said Curry.

Though Curry believed he would continue practicing law, he had a tough decision to make when his dad passed away.

“Dad was a very well respected and honest businessman. I felt that it was important to keep (the business) in the family,” said Curry.

The Curry family convened and decided it was best that Grant take on the business. Farm Bureau made him an offer to join their business and he humbly accepted the offer. He remains a licensed attorney but doubts he will return to practice for the foreseeable future.

“Insurance is different, but the transition wasn’t too bad,” said Curry. He explained how the legal realm and insurance world worked similarly and his experience with insurance law greatly helped him to succeed in the insurance business.

Several staff members from Chuck’s business remain at the office. Jerilyn Barth, Lindsey Douglass and Kathy Trumbull all worked for Curry’s father for several years and remain employed at Farm Bureau. Curry said they made the transfer much more workable for Curry.

Curry’s business at Farm Bureau offers property and casualty insurance, financial planning, wealth management, insurance and annuities, plus much more. Curry’s office is located at 1919 E. A St. in Torrington. Otherwise, he can be contacted at gcurry@mwfbi.com or (307) 532-3610.

Curry was born and raised in Torrington to Chuck and Debbie Curry. Curry attended Chadron State College on a football scholarship, graduating in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in justice studies. He then pursued a law degree from the University of Wyoming, graduating in 2008. Curry was admitted to the Wyoming and Colorado Bar that year.

In 2007, Curry married his then fiancé, Ashley. Grant and Ashley are the proud parents of Owen and Reed. Ashley is a third-grade teacher at Trail Elementary School while both Owen and Reed attend school.

Immediately after graduating from law school, Curry sought employment with White and Steele’s law firm in Denver. There, he practiced law, primarily in litigation defense for Fortune 500 companies. He started at the bottom and ended up becoming a shareholder in the company.

Though he was successful in Denver, Curry wanted to move back to Wyoming.

“I wanted to move back and be a part of the community and the boys love it here,” said Curry.

Curry and his children are die-hard sports fans and players. Curry delightedly coaches little league baseball and football. He expressed how much he loves sports and how much he enjoys coaching his children. Curry believes he may have never had these opportunities if he would have stayed in Denver.
