Joseph ‘Joe’ Garbo

Services for Joseph “Joe” Garbo, 89, were held Jan. 27 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad, Colo. He died Jan. 20.
Joseph was born April 18, 1920, to Antonio and Rose (Larmatina) Garbo. He graduated from Primero High School and attended Trinidad Junior College.
Joseph was a World War II veteran. He served three years while achieving the rank of Maj. Sgt. in the Fifth Bomber Wing and 15th Air Force Headquarters. He saw action in African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns from 1942 to 1945.
Joe was a Sunrise resident from 1946 to 1966. He worked as a cashier at CF&I Company Store. He moved to Trinidad, Colo., in 1966 and worked with CF&I at the Allen Mine as a warehouse clerk. He retired from the CF&I in 1983 after 37 years of employment and resided in Trinidad. He loved to garden and was a member of the VFW. Joe and his wife Louis were happily married for 61 years.
Joe is survived by his wife, Louis; three sons, Anthony and his wife Eva of Oro Valley, Ariz., Kenneth and his wife Lori of Fort Hood, Texas, Dennis and his wife Sonia of Navarra, Fla.; one daughter, Christine and her husband Raleigh of Draper, Utah; grandchildren, Brandon Garbo, Bryce Garbo, Whitney Port, Dustin Pantano, Christopher Garbo, Austyn Pantano, Kayla Lockhart; and great-grandchildren, Noah Garbo, Haven Garbo, Ashlynn Garbo, Caysen Garbo, Gracen Port.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Rose Garbo, a brother Sam Garbo, infant sister Grace Garbo and his mother and father-in-law, Opal and Raymond Lay.
