Lois Bernice Sawyer Hunter

November 13, 1913 - January 23, 2010



Memorial services for Lois Bernice Sawyer Hunter, 96, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in the chapel of the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Peggy Brown and Steven Seng officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Lois died Jan. 23 at the Goshen Care Center and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.

Lois was born Nov. 13, 1913, in Torrington to Arthur and Edna (Rogers) Sawyer. Lois’ parents were one of Goshen County’s pioneer families. She grew up and graduated from Torrington High School. She attended the University of Wyoming and the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She taught briefly in the Guernsey Elementary School. Lois married Raymond Samuel Hunter May 19, 1935. They had three children; Frank, Roger, and Lynne. The couple was married 68 years.

Lois was a member of the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church where she served in many leadership posts. She was a 77-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a past matron, and a past Bethel Guardian of Job’s Daughters.

Lois is survived by a son Roger Hunter and his wife Darla of Fort Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Lynne Ainsworth and her husband Jack of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Raymond Hunter, Michele and her husband Shane Costello, Ron Hunter, Jeff and his wife Michelle Hunter, Sharon and her husband Mario Flores, David and his wife Elizabeth Ainsworth, and Marilyn and her husband Joseph Wood; eight great-grandchildren, Tayln, Jordan, Braxton, Brady, Alexandra, Kelsey, Jaclyn, and David; and several nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond, son Frank and brother Frank Sawyer.
