Verna M. Canfield

Verna M. Canfield, 88, died Jan. 22 at Torrington Banner Health Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place and at Verna’s request no services will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of the cremation arrangements. The family requests that those who wish to make memorial contributions in Verna’ memory to direct donations to the Community Hospital Health Care Foundation. Verna was born on Nov. 14, 1921, in Morrill, Neb., the daughter of William and Merle (Walburn) Haskins. She grew up and received her early education at Morrill. The family moved to Mitchell, Neb., when Verna was in the 5th grade and she continued her education there until her junior year when the family moved to Torrington and Verna graduated Torrington High School. She married Jack Canfield on Aug. 25, 1941, at Hastings, Nebraska and the couple returned to Torrington.
Verna was a homemaker and mother, and she found great enjoyment in her grandchildren. She liked to play cards and she loved to read.
She is survived by her husband, Jack; her two daughters, Dianne and her husband Chuck Osback and Janna L. Canfield all of Torrington; two sisters, Grace Senteney of Torrington, and Donna and her husband Dean Gulley of Douglas; two grandsons, Brady Osback of Longmont, Colo., and Casey and his wife Tonya Osback of Temple Bar, Ariz., and one great grandson, Gunnar Anders Osback of Temple Bar. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jack D. Canfield; three brothers, Ray, Bill, and Dale Haskins, and a sister, Maxine Lamberson.
