Andrew D. Brosig/Torrington Telegram - Randy Epler, left, principal at Southeast High School, talks about former student Madison Bates, 17, center, with Goshen County School District Board Chair Charles Harshberger listening Monday during the trustee meeting at the district office in Torrington. Ms. Bates, currently studying early childhood education at Eastern Wyoming College, received her early graduation diploma Monday during the meeting.

TORRINGTON – A group of students approached the Goshen County School District No. 1 trustees on Monday, requesting an amendment to the rules governing who can – and can’t – attend high school dances.

Lingle-Fort Laramie High School students Bailey Surratt, Sammie Garvie, Georgia Wollert and Makenna Greenwald presented their request during the board’s regular meeting. They requested a change in school policy to allow non-students to attend upcoming senior prom.

Current policy states that attendees at any school dance must be a currently-enrolled student in the school. The student group requested the rule be amended only for the proms to allow recent graduates and other students aged 20 years or younger to attend the dance.
