Richard was born Aug. 25, 1947 in Casper, the son of Rufus Paul and Miriam Eileen (Bonsell) Brott. He grew up in Prairie Center and attended school there until the eighth grade. After the eighth grade, he attended school at Torrington and graduated from Torrington High School in 1966.
Richard met Mary Lou Greenwald and they were married in Lingle on July 27, 1969. The couple lived in Prairie Center on the Brott family ranch. They were blessed with three wonderful children.
The family moved to Lusk in 1977 and ranched there until 1982. They then moved back to Lingle and have resided there ever since.
Richard enjoyed his kids and following them in all of their school events. He enjoyed helping and working next to his sons. He always wanted to help his kids accomplish their dreams. He admired and was very proud of his children.
He also enjoyed going to the mountains and four-wheeling with friends and family. Richard restored old tractors. He was also good at telling stories and jokes and, most of all, making people laugh.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Brott of Lingle; his son Darin (Teresa) Brott of Torrington; his son Richard Brott of Lingle; his daughter Renee (Dustin) Thomas of Sidney, Neb.; and his five grandchildren, Jacob and Isabel Brott, Dominick and Damyn Russ and Carlyn Thomas.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Mary.
