TORRINGTON – Graveside services for Merl J. Soth, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at the Valley View Cemetery. Merl died Jan. 1, 2014 at the Community Hospital in Torrington.

Merl was born July 31, 1934 in Alliance, Neb., the son of John and Eula (Hinton) Soth. He grew up and received his education in Alliance. He later moved to Colorado and married Judith Fields on Feb. 10, 1968 in Denver, Colo.
Merl was a deputy sheriff in Pueblo, Colo., while also going to college and being a pilot. He had worked in TV and radio broadcasting as an engineer. Upon retirement, they moved to Torrington. Judith died in 2001. Merl was a farmer, businessman, and a friend of many.
Merl is survived by a son, Warren Sterling Soth of Alliance; a brother-in-law, Dennis Fields and his wife Susan of Gore, Okla.; nephews Kelly (Kristin) Fields of Tahlequah, Okla., Jeb (Stephani) Fields of Bloomington, Ill., and Cody Fields of Gore; a sister-in-law, Debbie Fields of Gore; and a niece, Heather Summerlin of Gore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Eula Soth; his wife, Judith Soth; a brother, Wayne Soth; and an infant son.
