Letter to the editor - Cottonwood not up for grabs

Posted: Wednesday, Oct 16th, 2013

Unfortunately, today we live in a political climate where fear-peddling and scare tactics seem to be becoming the norm. So much so that we have become somewhat jaded and nearly expect such from many of those in national office.

I do not expect nor appreciate our local officials engaging in the similar tactics – yet apparently, according to the article in the Oct. 11 Telegram concerning the lost and newly found platting information – that is exactly what our county commission Chairman James Hudelson engaged in!

The meeting topic concerned property, which does not include either of the Cottonwood subdvisions, yet Mr. Hudelson chose to pontificate out of the blue, with inaccurate information.

He claimed that Cottonwood is on city water – simply not true. He also stated without basis what the water table level is in relation to the legal septic systems and leach fields in Cottonwood, as if there was something wrong, toxic or illegal going on. There is not.

He then openly suggested that Cottonwood should be a target for annexation. Again, this was in the course of discussion about a completely different tract.

Cottonwood owners are primarily older folks who chose to live here because of the unique combination of location, quiet, beauty and independence from city restrictions and fees. I speak independently and certainly not for all of Cottonwood, but I do know that the great majority are content and do not want annexation.

Today, we get to worry about threats to Social Security, Medicare, health care and insurance, investment losses and a government constantly looking to expand and encroach on our freedoms and way of life.

Now, thanks to Mr. Hudelson, we get to worry about what he has up his sleeve, and whether or not he is going to continue the irresponsible spouting of non-facts concerning the Cottonwood subdivisions.

That’s a worry we don’t need and he can do something about. I believe a correction and retraction is in order and should be made part of the county commission record.
