William J. ‘Bill’ Franks

LINGLE – Memorial services for William J. “Bill” Franks, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the Lingle Community Presbyterian Church with Revs. Peggy Brown and Curtis Hill officiating.

Bill died at his home on Aug. 14, 2013, and cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to any environmental cause of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home, and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.

Bill was born Dec. 13, 1925 in Lyman, Neb., the son of James and Cora (Flint) Franks. He grew up and received his education at the Liberty Rural School north of Morrill, Neb., and later graduated from the Mitchell, Neb. high school in 1943. He then attended the Scottsbluff, Neb. junior college.

He married Patricia Floyd on Oct. 9, 1948. They moved to a farm south of Lingle, and he farmed in that area for the rest of his life.

Bill served on several boards, among them the Wyoming Water Development Commission, to which he was appointed by Gov. Jim Geringer in 1995 and served until 2003; the Goshen Irrigation District for almost 40 years; and the Holly Sugar beet board. He ran a couple of unsuccessful campaigns for State Senate and State Legislature.

Bill is survived by a daughter, Georganne “Georgie” Hunter of Lingle; five grandchildren, Grant Hunter and his wife Meghan of The Woodlands, Texas, Haley Oliver and her husband Dusty of Lafayette, Ind., Graham Franks and his wife Brynn of Shoshoni, Matthew Franks and his wife Danielle of Bozeman, Mont., and Cora Franks of Laramie; six great grandchildren, Quinton, Charlotte and Anderson Hunter, Fynn and Samuel Franks, and James Franks; two sisters, Shirley Cunningham of Monroe, La., and Virginia Scofield of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a special friend, Erma Carpenter of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat; and two sons, Jim and Joe.
