VALENTINE, Neb. – A memorial service for Eleanor Elaine (Eggers) Spence, 77, of Valentine, will be held on Aug. 17, 2013 at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church in Torrington at 10:30 a.m. Eleanor died July 2013 at her home in Valentine.
Burial will follow at the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Holmes Funeral Home in Valentine. Memorials may be made to the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Women’s Association in Torrington.
Eleanor was born on July 2, 1936 in Torrington, the daughter of Wendell E. and Mary N. (Annan) Eggers. She graduated from Huntley High School with the class of 1954. She then attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo.
On June 1, 1958, she married James D. Spence in Henry, Neb. The couple was blessed with two sons, James and Kent. They lived in various locations in eastern Wyoming, Nebraska and Montana, spending most of their time in Valentine and Fort Peck, Mont. She held various jobs and was a professional artist.
Eleanor was very artistic. She enjoyed drawing and painting for family, friends and others. Some of her hobbies included sewing, gardening and canning. She was active in her church. After Eleanor and Jim both retired, they enjoyed visiting and playing cards with friends, volunteering at Senior Centers in both Fort Peck and Valentine, traveling and their trips to Deadwood.
Eleanor is survived by her two sons: James (Kathy) of Lincoln, Neb. and Kent (Pat) of Omaha, Neb.; her sister, Marcia Hort of Torrington; and four grandchildren: Zac, Shawn, Scott and Tyson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Willie Hort.
