Centennial celebration moves along

Photo/ Bud Patterson Items removed from the time capsule that was housed in the courthouse cornerstone, laid in 1913, are set out, numbered and cataloged after they were removed last Thursday in anticipation of the July 6 rededication ceremony.

TORRINGTON – The Torrington Telegram headline, dated July 3, 1913, reads, “THE BIG CELEBRATION IS NOW ON.” Postage stamps cost 2 cents. And starting a grocery store in 1913 evidently cost $2,000.

These are just a few samples of the letters, documents, photos, booklets and financial reports that were discovered in the time capsule that had been placed in the Goshen County Courthouse cornerstone that was removed last Thursday from its 100-year resting place.
