100 years and still going strong

TORRINGTON – The past 100 years have brought many changes to Goshen County, from business to land management, but one family has continued to ranch the same land dating back to 1912.

With the county centennial celebrations ongoing, the men in the DesEnfants family have handed down the cattle business from generation to generation for over 100 years.

Billy DesEnfants grew up on his family’s ranch, which lies just north of town on Van Tassell Road. He recently recalled how ranching has changed since his time growing up and working cattle as the third generation of DesEnfants, after his father handed down the land. He talked about how new-age machines like four-wheelers are used today instead of horses.
