TORRINGTON – Graveside services for Joseph Montoya, 73, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Valley View Cemetery. A reception was held at Joe’s home at 363 East 6th Ave. following the service.
Joe died at his home on March 4, 2013, and cremation has taken place. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
Joe was born Nov. 21, 1939 in Mora, N.M., the son of Miguel and Domisinda (Arguello) Montoya. He grew up in New Mexico and married there. He moved to California, where he worked as a carpenter until 1979 when they moved to Torrington, where he worked as a ranch hand for Rick Carroll and Gene Hoyt until his retirement in 2005.
Joe enjoyed fishing, making picture frames and doing carpentry and added an addition on to his house by himself.
Joe is survived by three daughters, Angela Montoya and Christina Everett, both of Torrington, and Rose Lynch and her husband Tom of Evanston; a son, Joseph Montoya Jr. of Rawlins; two brothers, Juan Montoya and Vivian Montoya, both of Evanston; a sister, Josephine Montoya of Torrington; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father Mary and Trino Lopez; a grandmother, Isabel Apodaca; an aunt, Katie Apodaca; and a son, John Montoya.
