Showdown at Lone Tree Canyon - Petition to close county road could affect access to iconic area

HAWK SPRINGS – Lone Tree Canyon got its name, according to Hugh Dowers, from a man named Lonetree who was providing telegraph poles for Western Union in the early 1860s.

The Dowers family has owned property in the canyon since 1935, when Hugh’s father moved the family into a small cabin about halfway up the canyon.
