HAWK SPRINGS Maxine Freda Adams, age 94, passed away Jan. 28, 2013 at Mesa, Arizona. She was born on a farm two miles north of Hawk Springs on Oct. 7, 1918 to Freda and Earl Marlatt.

Her mother, Freda Vance Marlatt, came down with pneumonia shortly thereafter and died at the home of her parents, William G. and Emma Vance, also of Hawk Springs.

Maxine was raised by her grandparents until approximately the age of 2, when her father, Earl Marlatt, took her to live with him in Haxton, Colo. She graduated from high school there. She spent her summers at Hawk Springs.

Maxine married Conrad Adams Sept. 16, 1941 and they had twin boys Larry and Gary, born Feb. 7, 1942 in Torrington. In 1946, Conrad and Maxine were divorced, and Maxine remained single to the end of her life. She worked to raise and support her beloved sons.

She lived and worked in Julesburg and Sterling, Colo. and Torrington for a period of time. Then, during the late 1950s, she relocated to Laramie and was employed by the University of Wyoming Student Union as head cashier. She retired from there.

She was predeceased by her sons, Larry in 2004 and Gary in 2005; her mother, Freda (Vance) Marlatt; her father, Earl Marlatt; her stepmother, Marie; her half brothers, Earl, Jr. and Donald; and her half sister, Avis (Marlatt) Hughes.

She is survived by her half brother, Robert D. Marlatt of Mesa, Ariz. and one granddaughter, Cheryl Annette, daughter of Gary Adams. Her beloved half brother, Robert D. Marlatt, was her guardian after her illness and until her death. She was deeply loved by her cousins Venita Cochran and Naomi Schaffer of Hawk Springs, Velda Behrendt of Longmont, Colo., Freda Beck of Berthod, Colo., James Vance of Chicago, Ill., Russell Shannon of Torrington, Everine Evans of Cheyene, and Vesper McDonald of St Louis, Mo.

She was laid to rest in the Valley View Cemetery in the City of Torrington.
