Robert Lee Howe

CHEYENNE – Robert Lee Howe, 80, of Hawk Springs, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Cheyenne.

He was born April 4, 1932 in Pollock, Mo., a son to Orris Austin and Ethel Marie (Godfrey) Howe. He attended schools in Missouri, moving as a young boy to Guernsey, where he lived with the Graves family and finished his schooling.

Robert worked in the mines in Guernsey until joining the U.S. Army, where he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a medic. He returned to Guernsey upon his release, where he resumed his work in the mines. Later, he began ranching for the McGill Ranch near Wheatland and the Hall Ranch near Rock River before moving to Hawk Springs in 1988, where he worked most recently for the Hubbs Farm.

He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, playing pool, telling a good story and, more recently, gambling.

Survivors include four sons: Tim Howe, Wamsutter; Mike Howe, Hawk Springs; Doug Howe, Yoder; Tom Howe, Douglas; four sisters, Marilynn Howe; June Howe; Joan Shultz and Kathy Webb; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and James Howe; and a sister, Mary Lou Howe.

Memorial Services were held on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
