Luella H. Terrell

TORRINGTON – Funeral services for Luella H. Terrell, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Firminhac officiating.

Cremation will take place following services. Luella died Jan. 9, 2013 at Community Hospital in Torrington. A memorial has been established to Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church briefly prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home, and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.

Luella was born Dec. 13, 1921 at home near Blue Hill, Neb., the daughter of Maximillian and Alstle (Johnson) Benker. She grew up and received her education in Blue Hill, graduating high school there.

She moved to the Scottsbluff/Gering, Neb. area, where she worked a short time for a family caring for their children and housekeeping. She worked for Cook’s Packing Plant in Gering, where she met and later married Marvin Terrell on Feb. 10, 1944 in Scottsbluff. She worked briefly for a packing plant in Albuquerque, N.M. before returning to Cook’s in Gering.

After her husband’s discharge from the military they moved to Torrington in 1947 where they farmed for a short time before starting a trucking company in 1948. She worked as the bookkeeper for that company for many years before retiring in 2000.

Luella enjoyed playing cards and gardening. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Luella is survived by her husband Marvin of Torrington; a daughter, Sharon Walson of Torrington; two sons, Wesley Terrell and his wife, Lorraine, of Gillette, and Warren Terrell of Torrington; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Carl and Ervin Benker; and three sisters Irene, Agnus, and Florence.
