TORRINGTON – Memorial services for Jean Montgomery, 85, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Torrington with the Rev. Robert “Bob” Spencer officiating.
Jean died on Nov. 28, 2012 at the Torrington Community Hospital, and cremation has taken place. Private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that memorial contributions in Jean’s memory be directed to either the All Saints Episcopal Church or to the Torrington Waggin’ Tails Animal Shelter.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1926 in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Marvin and Winafred (McHenry) Downar. She grew up and received her education in Gering, Neb., graduating from Gering High School in 1944. She married James T. Montgomery in Gering on Sept. 7, 1947.
Jean served as the bookkeeper for R & M Lumber Company and Halco Homes for many years. She loved reading and knitting and playing cards. She especially enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs.
Jean was a member of the Torrington P.E.O. Chapter AU and she was on the hospital board. She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry.
She is survived by her husband Jim; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Brenda Montgomery of Gilbert, Ariz.; her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Jerome Settles of Haskins, Neb.; and one granddaughter, Jara Settles of Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dick Downar; and sister-in-law, Nena Downar.
