TORRINGTON – Memorial services celebrating the life of Richard “Butch” Lynn Krug, 64, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steven Seng officiating.
Richard, a native of Torrington, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 in Denver. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the American Legion Post No. 5 baseball program in Torrington. Richard was born Nov. 8, 1948 at the West Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff, Neb. to Walter and Artyce (Rutter) Krug and was the youngest of three sons.
He grew up in Goshen County and graduated from Torrington High School in 1967. He was an accomplished athlete, competing in baseball, basketball and tennis. He won a Wyoming State Championship in tennis (No. 1 singles) in 1966.
He continued his education at Eastern Wyoming College (EWC), where he was member of the college’s first intercollegiate basketball team in 1968. He received an associate’s degree from EWC in 1969 and then earned a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College in 1971.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army in the fall of 1971 and served as an avionics mechanic. He was stationed in Ft. Campbell, Ky. with the 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Brigade and served 18 months in Vietnam. He reached the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged from the army in the fall of 1974. He received the national defense commendation medal and an M-16 marksman badge.
He was formerly employed at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff and for many years worked as a clinical instructor and coordinator of radiology. Known to many as “Butch,” he loved coaching baseball and instructed many teams at all levels from Little League to Torrington’s American Legion Post No. 5 team.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed playing softball, bowling and hunting, and he was a member of the American Legion. He married Judith Cecil of Huntley June 1, 1974, and to this union was born two sons (Daniel and Mark). They later divorced. On Oct. 28, he married Felecia Juarez of Torrington in Las Vegas, and to this union was born a son and a daughter (Matthew and Jessica).
Richard is survived by his four children; wife; brothers Toby of Cheyenne and Ken of Rapid City, S.D.; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Artyce (April 12, 2012) and his father Walter (Sept. 1, 1977).
