TORRINGTON Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) will see some familiar faces on the Board of Trustees.
Gary Olson, Mike Varney, Julie Kilty and Lowell Kautz will be coming back to the board, according to the unofficial Goshen County election results.
Area 4, which represents Torrington and Prairie Center, was the closest with four candidates running for two seats. All candidates won at least 20 percent of the vote.
In the Area 4 contest, former trustee Gary Olson came away with the most votes at 2,508, or 29 percent of the vote. Torrington Mayor and current trustee Mike Varney won 25.8 percent of the vote at 2,225, followed close behind by Judi Fogle with 2,132 votes.
Im looking forward to working with the administration and current trustees, Olson said. (EWC) has a lot of good things going for them.
Varney, a former instructor at EWC, said he was humbled to serve the school in a new term.
I love serving on the college board, Varney said. Ive always loved EWC. Its a humbling experience serving for these four years. I really want to thank (the voters) for their support.
One unopposed candidate each ran to represent Areas 1 (LaGrange, Hawk Springs and Iowa Center) and 2 (Huntley, Veteran and Yoder). Kilty won 4,154 votes; there were 18 write-in votes in the Area 1 race. In Area 2, Kautz won the most votes of the EWC trustee races at 4,668. There were 14 write-in votes for Area 2.
Kautz was originally elected to the board to complete the term of former board president Carl Rupp, who retired earlier this year. Kilty replaced 12-year board veteran Sherri Lovercheck in April. Lovercheck was appointed to the Wyoming Community College Commission.
