Letter to the editor: A change for improvement

Posted: Wednesday, Nov 7th, 2012

I am writing this letter as a concerned parent and community leader. I am very concerned about the direction our schools are going, failing to meet AYP in our elementary schools, as well as inadequately preparing our graduates for college or career placements.

The current administration seems to be focusing on the wrong issues, not helping our students to achieve success. They seem to be satisfied with an 80 percent graduation rate and a mediocre education for those who do graduate, failing to instill many of our students with a solid work ethic to be successful out of high school.

I am sick of hearing that all a school board can do is adopt policies and hire or fire the superintendent, a philosophy our current board embraces.

I feel the board is equally accountable for the successes and failures of the students and schools. I feel the board should be allowed to have the conversations with the teachers and students to help make the education the best that it could be.

If you feel like I do, vote for a change on the board and a chance for improvements in the district.
