TORRINGTON – Loren Willis Yuill, 82, of LaGrange, died on Oct. 11 at his home.
Loren was born on July 21, 1930, in Rapid City, S.D., the son of John and Lydia (Johnson) Yuill. He grew up near Newell, S.D., and received his early education there.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and finished his education there. After his discharge in 1952, he returned to South Dakota, working at Fort Meade for a while and other jobs as well.
He married Alice Schrieber on May 30, 1953, in Sturgis, S.D.
In 1958, he started working at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Salt Lake City as a cook and continued there until he retired in August of 1985. The couple moved to LaGrange in 1996.
Loren enjoyed painting, making stick men and fishing – mainly fly-fishing.
Loren is survived by his wife, Alice, of LaGrange; two sons, Wesley Yuill and his wife, Cindy, of Palmer, Alaska, and Carl Yuill and his wife, Brenda, of LaGrange; daughter, Cara Holm and her husband, Jerry, of Frazier Lake, British Colombia, Canada; son-in-law, Dan Oedekoven, of LaGrange; brother, Gene Yuill and his wife, Averil, of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; sister, Leora; daughter, Marty Oedekoven; three grandchildren, Brett, Candace and Camilla; and two great-grandchildren, Heather and Christina.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the LaGrange Cemetery with Pastor Don Mathis officiating. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial has been established to LaGrange Fire and Rescue Units. The Colyer Funeral Home assisted the family with the cremation arrangements.
