Courtesy - A fistfight breaks out during the middle of thrashing in Custer County, Neb., sometime in the 1930s. Relatives of Torrington’s Gordon Schloatman on his mother’s side were involved. Schloatman said one of the combatants wore a bandanna to prevent getting a farmer’s tan and was called a sissy. This led to the fight. Schloatman said the worker simply didn’t want to go back to school with a tan.
