TORRINGTON – The Goshen County Republican Central Committee has a big task ahead of them in Goshen County.
Goshen County Republican Party Chairman Doug Chamberlain said as of press time, there are 16 applicants for the vacancy on the Goshen County Commission. Commissioner Ross Newman resigned earlier this month; he was a commissioner for 12 years.
Chamberlain said the GCRP plans to host a candidate forum at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium.
The format is expected to be similar to the last candidate forum with slight changes. Each candidate will have a one-minute opening statement and have one minute to answer each of the four questions, followed by one-minute for a closing statement. Chamberlain said there would be no time allotted for responses due to the number of candidates.
The Republican Central Committee consists of precinct committee members and GCRP officers. They will meet in a closed session at the Community Room in Platte Valley Bank on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The preliminary plan for the closed meeting is the committee members will vote by secret ballot in four rounds. Four candidates with the least votes at the end of the first round will be eliminated; three will be eliminated in the three subsequent rounds. In the event of a tie vote, the committee will hold a tie-breaking vote between the two candidates before moving to the next step. The results will be available after the closed session concludes. The committee will deliver its recommendation of three candidates to the remaining two commissioners, Chairman Jim Hudelson and Commission Robert Ward, on Wednesday.
