Web-first Update: Salazar's death ruled accidental drowning

SIOUX COUNTY, Neb. – Accidental drowning was the reported cause of death for a Torrington man found in the Pathfinder Irrigation Canal in Sioux County Monday night.



Torrington Police Chief Billy Janes said a coroner working with the Nebraska State Patrol relayed the cause of the death of Joseph Salazar, 49, to the TPD Wednesday morning. Investigators are still trying to determine the whereabouts of the truck in which Salazar was last seen. The truck is described as a gold 2009 Ford F150 registered to the Goshen County School District. Anyone with information concerning the truck should contact Torrington Dispatch at 532-7001.



The NSP and TPD are working together after the deceased was discovered in the Pathfinder Canal north of Mitchell, Neb.



According to a release from the Nebraska State Patrol, A passer-by discovered a body in the canal at about 8 p.m. on Monday. Authorities later identified the deceased as Salazar. Salazar’s wife reported him missing on Monday to the Torrington Police Department, according to the NSP.
