TORRINGTON City crews were on the scene of a big, potentially damaging mess in the alley between 21st and 22nd avenues near Main Street this morning.
The Torrington Police Department is looking for information about a vandalism incident reported at 6 a.m. Monday morning.
According to Police Chief Billy Janes, the suspect in the incident reportedly threw trash around and dumped two drums of grease stored behind the Pineapple Grill into the roadway between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Monday. Janes said city workers spent several hours cleaning up the mess, which extended to the citys drainage and sewer systems. A truck spread sand over the roadway. The cleanup from the alleys alone cost the city about $1,000, according to a statement from Chris Dorn of the City of Torrington Streets and Sanitation department.
According to Det. Lt. Doug Weeks, the suspect is described as male between 59 and 6 tall and weighing between 300 and 350 pounds with no or very short hair.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Torrington Police Department at 532-7001. Security footage is available for viewing at the police department.
Weeks said anyone with information for the TPD may be eligible for a reward if an arrest is made.
