TORRINGTON – Dorothy Leon Newton, 95, died on Aug. 1 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Dorothy was born on April 20, 1917, at Indian Hill, Wyo., the daughter of Merl and Amelda (Wollam) Teeters. She was born and raised at Indian Hill and graduated from Burns High School. She attended one year of Normal Training and taught school at times.

She married William ‘Wallace’ Newton on Nov. 18, 1939 in Douglas. They ranched in several areas in southeast Wyoming at first with her parents and later on their own. They later moved to Heritage Estates in Gering, Neb.

Dorothy was a member of the Local Farmers Union No. 493 where she was once named Woman of the Year. She was a trained volunteer for the Hope Line in Torrington and once served as the grand marshal with her husband William Wallace Newton for the Goshen County Fair and Rodeo.

Dorothy has been affiliated with the Truth Church since childhood, opening her home and heart to the traveling ministers, sharing shelter, food and praise with thanksgiving in Jesus’ name. She was an elementary teacher, family ranch work grateful ranch wife, nurturing mother, loving grandmother and great grandmother as well as a loving Christian lady.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Wallace Newton of Gering; son, Garold Wallace “Gary” (Terri) Newton, also of Gering; stepson, Winford Beaver and his fiancee, Cindy Ann Rasmussen, of Hudson, Wyo.; sister, Lauree Johnston, of Cheyenne; sister-in-law, Betty Teeters, of Lingle; former daughter-in-law, Christine (LeRoy) Casterline, of Casper; grandchildren, Garold Wallace “Gary” Newton II, of Toluca Lake in Los Angeles, and Jack Doyle (Rebecca) Newton, of Fort Collins, Colo.; step-granddaughters, Bridget (John) Farro, of Scottsbluff, and Londa (Darrell) Baggs, of Colorado; great-granddaughters, Alannah Newton, and McKennah Newton; step-great-granddaughters, Lnay Baggs, Lacee Baggs and Larami Baggs; and step-great-grandson, Dylan Baggs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John (Lillie) Teeters and Joel (Norma) Teeters; sister, Berthinia Standifer; and brothers-in-law, Enoch Baumgardner, Richard Johnston, J.E. Standifer and Robert Schreck.

Funeral services were held Aug. 7 at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at the Valley View Cemetery.
