TORRINGTON – Arthur F. Hagen, 84, of Torrington, died on July 26 at Banner Health Community Hospital in Torrington.
Arthur was born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Huron, S.D., the son of Merle and Leona (Geuther) Hagen. He grew up and received his early education in Huron and Armour, S.D. He entered the U.S. Navy, where he spent four years as an aviation electrician and was discharged in 1949.
He attended college at Colorado State University, where he received his master’s degree in entomology. He married Marlene Halstead on March 23, 1954, in Wagner, S.D. Arthur worked as an research and extension entomologist for the state of Nebraska for 33 years. They spent time in Scottsbluff and North Platte, Neb., before he retired in 1990. They moved to Torrington in 1995.
Arthur was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, past member of the Rock Club, the American Legion in Mitchell, Neb., and the Goshen County Sportsman’s Club. He liked to collect and polish rocks, hunt, bird watch and make knives of deer antlers and stone blades.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Marlene, of Torrington; daughters, Sandy Hagen and her husband, Don Saretski, of Scottsbluff, Dani Donker and her husband, Steve, of Chadron, Neb., and Gigi Asselin and her husband, Kelly, of Kearney, Neb.; son, Merle Hagen and his wife, Connie, of Scottsbluff; 12 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held July 31 in the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ora Dailey officiating.
