TORRINGTON – The city of Torrington paid homage to four individuals on Monday for their actions in the Dale Jones Municipal Swimming Pool on June 28 that saved the life of Ashley Tosh, 10, of LaGrange.
Mayor Mike Varney presented certificates recognizing Dylan Flores, 10, Vincent Goulart, 10, and Jaedyn Mendiola, 9, all of Torrington, and Pauline Blackwell, 26, of Gering, Neb., for being true superheroes.
Marti Rosenburg, Vincent’s grandmother, said Ashley was under the water and couldn’t come out.
“I was just going down the slide,” Vincent said. “I thought she was diving for fun (at first). I knew something was wrong.”
Dylan also noticed Ashley wasn’t surfacing.
“Me and Jaedyn were playing on the 5-foot slide for awhile,” Vincent said. “She was still under.” They saw her from the top of the slide.
“You kids are the ones who saved her,” Rosenburg said.
Jaedyn told Blackwell what was happening and Blackwell yelled “I need help!”
Rosenburg said Blackwell carried Ashley over to the side of the pool. Lifeguards helped lift Ashley from the pool.
Ashley was released from Children’s Hospital in Denver on July 5.
A fundraiser at Cottonwood Country Club raised more than $2,000 last weekend for the Tosh family.
First State Bank has set up a fund to help the family pay medical expenses. Donations may be mailed to the Ashley Tosh Medical Fund, 1410 E. Valley Road, Torrington, WY 82240.
