TORRINGTON – Since 1995, the Chadron (Neb.) High School Cardinals have been a staple in the Torrington Trailblazers non-conference football schedule.
That was until 2012.
This fall there will be no Nebraska schools on the Blazers’ schedule.
Second-year Blazer’s coach Mark Lenhardt explained that the Nebraska High School Activities Association is encouraging its teams to play in-state competition.
The result was Chadron dropping Torrington from its schedule and adding Sidney, ending a 17-year old season-opening tradition.
In those 17-years, it was a one-sided affair. During that stretch, Torrington was 1-16 against Chadron.
