TORRINGTON – “Late Night in Torrington” is nearly here.
“We have had an amazing response,” Philip Rotter, New York design consultant, said Tuesday about unveiling the new look of Our Clothing Store on Torrington’s Main Street this Thursday night from 5 to 9.
Other downtown merchants are joining the celebration. More than 90 percent of the businesses will be open, offering something different for their customers. From live music by the Torrington Fiddlers to fresh food from the Pineapple Grill, everyone is doing their part to make this night memorable.
“I’m excited for people to see all of the wonderful things we are doing,” Our Clothing Store manager Wendy Martinez said. “I hope we have a big crowd. We hope that people will see the changes we have made, so they know they can stop here first.”
Our Clothing Store’s local flavor comes from various businesses downtown, as well as members of the community. Local artist Wayne Brown has made an artistic piece for displaying jewelry.
“It is made from repurposed flatware,” Rotter said. This grand re-opening party is a way of bringing more attention to Main Street and spurring people to shop locally. Other businesses such as Leithead’s Appliance Center are excited for this opportunity. During Thursday night it will have special sales from 5 to 9 only.
“I hope people take advantage of it and come downtown to go shopping,” owner Aileen Leithead said. Several years ago Leithead’s actually stayed open later every Thursday night.
“For a while it was OK, but eventually it started to die down,” Leithead said.
Bill Grubbs, owner of the Pineapple Grill, said that his business would also be involved. Grubbs is excited for this event to bring something new to town. Pineapple Grill simply wants to show its support and wouldn’t mind doing something like this every so often.
“Whenever I can cook, I’m game,” Grubbs said. “I may set up closer to Our Clothing Store and serve turkey legs or sausages, and whatever I can find.”
Expect to see a major change to the typical Main Street this Thursday night.
