Letter to the editor: Step off the shelter

Posted: Tuesday, Jul 1st, 2014

As a longtime volunteer of the shelter, I am disheartened when I hear people say anything negative about Waggin’ Tails Shelter. Here is some useful information for all the Debbie Downers out there regarding the shelter.

All of the dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and other random animals that come to the shelter are treated with extreme kindness, compassion and respect. Ninety-five percent of the animals that come to our shelter are treated better than they ever have in their whole life.

They have a soft spot to place their bones, two meals a day, heat in the winter, a cool spot in the summer. They get vetted, vaccinated and altered when no one bothers to come look for them.

So, for all that say, “Oh, I don’t want to see that dog go to the shelter...” That is the best thing that could happen to that dog.

Talk to Teri Shinost or one of the volunteers. Find out what happens when the dog or cat is not reclaimed by its people. You think you know, but you have no idea.

If you don’t believe me, come see for yourself. Most of the naysayers are hearing second-hand stories. Come look at the facilities, smell the facilities, walk in our shoes, pick up some poo and then tell the world what you have witnessed with your own eyes.
