After reading the column concerning abortion on July 13, it would appear that abortion right or wrong would depend on the individual’s interpretation of the Bible.
This means “I” am the authority. Whether you read the Bible literally or metaphorically, “I” again am the authority.
Is there a liberal and conservative translation of the Bible?
This would mean things are relative or sometimes things matter and other times maybe not. This is not a matter of what one thinks personally. When does life begin is the question.
Is it at 20 days, or why not 19 days and 3 hours or 39 days and 4 hours?
If one does not know when life begins then you never, never act to terminate it. There must be an authority, and it certainly is not one’s self. The Didache might be a source as it states how the early Christians saw themselves and from the teaching of the Apostles how they lived.
Even biologists will tell us that when the egg and sperm fuse, a new individual exists (zygote). Knowledge and a well-formed conscience would do us well when making such decisions concerning life.
