Letter to the editor: People can cohabitate without marriage

My same-sex “marriage” letter was a two-pronged message to prove to myself there’s not a clear understanding why President Obama endorsed it and to show how quickly people attack the message bearer and not the content of what is said.

Many voters have a constricted picture of what is truly happening to our future and would rather follow sports figures and actors/actresses than elected leaders’ actions and have news poured into their minds rather than research for themselves. My next letter will explain some real reasons.

The letter of May 30 is filled with questions/statements/opinions but no truths. She asks, “If two people love each other shouldn’t they be allowed the same rights, privileges and responsibilities, no matter their genders?”

There are laws in every state that allow two people who cohabit without marriage the same rights as married couples. Millions of straight couples take advantage of them. Homosexuals are not banned from using the same contractual laws. Most just don’t bother to use them. My nephews in California do.

Many laws prohibit others who love each other from marriage, such as father-daughter, mother-son, uncle-niece, aunt-nephew, first/second-cousins, grandparent-grandchild, etc. Yet these “marriages” or cohabitations have always and still happen.

David Epstein, Columbia University political science professor, is charged with having a sexual relationship with his 24-year-old daughter since she was 18. He gets support from his academic friends. In researching I found many other such relationships.

So as the old question asks; “Since everybody’s doing it shouldn’t it be legal?”

I suggest that Chris Vann research NAMBLA, which began in San Francisco where advocacy of same-sex “marriage” began about the same time and where I worked for 20 years. NAMBLA advocates changes in society’s views about consensual sex between adults and minors. Some use 10 years of age as the benchmark. I learned about NAMBLA during the six years I was a member of the California STD Advisory Council.

Where do we stop having an orderly society?

Vann, I take great umbrage in being compared to white-hooded people. Fifty-four years ago my marriage was considered interracial. And the killing of my Apache people did not end until 1932. All countries have always and still have interracial marriage prohibitions not just our country. Black-robed justices wrote/enforced prohibitions for American Indians, Mexicans, Asians, Filipinos, the retarded and many others not just Negros.

Please do research, so name-calling rhetoric won’t be your “facts.”
