The Torrington girls basketball team jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening minutes of regulation Tuesday against Scottsbluff, Neb., but struggled offensively from that point on en route to a 49-23 loss to the Bearcats in Scottsbluff.
The Bearcats outscored Torrington 12-2 in the final minutes of the first quarter to grab a 14-8 lead and extended that lead to 25-15 at intermission.
Torrington’s offensive struggles continued in the second half as they managed just five points in the third and three in the fourth.
The Blazers finished the contest 8-of-47 from the floor (1-of-6 from three-point range) and 6-of-14 from the free throw line while the Bearcats were 18-of-52 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe.
“We started tough, then the ball wouldn’t go in the basket,” Torrington coach Jeff Halley said. “Everyone seemed to be getting good looks and attacking the paint, but the ball wouldn’t fall.
