Rivalry heads to ‘The War’
Posted: Wednesday, Nov 11th, 2009

For the first time in both school’s history, the Southeast Cyclones and Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers will meet for a state title on the gridiron – and the site for the first ever meeting on neutral ground – War Memorial Stadium.

The Wyoming High School Activities Association is hosting all five Wyoming state championship games in Laramie on Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium for the first time in history and the Cyclones and Doggers will take center stage in the first game of the weekend.

“I think this will be an awesome opportunity for our kids,” Lingle-Fort Laramie third year coach Kevin Derby said. “If you grew up in Wyoming, it is probably a dream come true to be able to play at War Memorial Stadium.

“It will be exciting for both teams,” he added. “Obviously, we are excited to have another shot at playing them. I’m sure both teams and both towns are very excited and I’m sure both teams will have great fan support in Laramie.”

Southeast’s 11th year coach Mark Bullington echoed the same.

“I think it will be great for high school football in Wyoming,” Bullington said. “The game will be a hard fought battle for both teams. It (Southeast versus Lingle-Fort Laramie) is a great testament on the quality of football in Goshen County.”
