Tigers finish second at Sidney tournament

Posted: Wednesday, Jul 2nd, 2014

Tiger outfielder Dallen Fleenor makes contact with the baseball in a game earlier in the season. Coach Jared Stimpson praised Fleenor for moving baserunners in an 11-10 win over Sidney, Neb. over the weekend.

SIDNEY, Neb. – Coming into the 2014 season, Torrington Tiger Legion coach Jared Stimpson’s goal was simple – win 10 games.

“It is very difficult for a program to take a year off and come back and compete, and being new to Torrington, I really didn’t know what to expect,” he said. “These boys are baseball players. They know how to play the game, they work hard, they love the game, they teach each other, and they know what it takes to win.”

After a 3-1 weekend at the Sidney round-robin tournament, the Tigers more than doubled that goal and have matched the Douglas Cats for the most victories in the state in the Legion Class A level at 21.
