TORRINGTON – On July 9-11, Melvin White participated and won the age 75-and-up United States Bowling Congress Senior Championship in Reno, Nev.
The tournament is not an open-entry tournament.
“I won the Wyoming state tournament last year, which qualified me for the tournament,” White said.
For winning the Wyoming Bowling Association state championship, the WBA payed his way to the national event.
The tournament featured more than 375 male and female bowlers from all 50 states and Canada.
White bowled six games over two days and had to place in the top six in his age group to advance to the championship round.
In the qualifying rounds, White placed second with a scratch total of 485 pins Monday and 544 Tuesday.
On the final day of the tournament, White knocked down 558 pins, for a tournament total of 1,947. That was 13 pins betters than his closest competitor.
