No public services will be held for Elaine Swanson, 90, as per her request. Elaine died at Goshen Care Center on Dec. 14, 2011. Cremation has taken place and a private service was held. Tributes of sympathy may be sent to Bill and Dee Swanson at 137 Loma Vista Rd., Torrington, WY 82240. The Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of the cremation arrangements.
Elaine was born Sept. 30, 1921 in Morrill, Neb., the daughter of Shelby and Teresa (Fanning) Fleenor. She attended and graduated from Morrill High School and then attended the University of Wyoming at Laramie. On March 7, 1940, she married Richard McKinley “Dick” Swanson and they lived in the Denver, Colo., area during World War II where Dick worked in a shipyard. They returned to Wyoming and ranched east of Torrington. After selling the ranch they moved to Oshkosh, Neb., and finally back to Torrington where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Elaine was a member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She enjoyed square dancing, golf, and was a member of the Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington. She was widely recognized for her housekeeping abilities. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States.
Elaine is survived by her two sons, Bill Swanson and his wife Dee of Torrington, and John Swanson and his wife Peggy of Eagle, Colo.; six grandchildren, Rhonda M. (Everman) Swanson, Christopher W. Swanson, Cynthia M. (Fisher) Swanson, Jackie B. (Rindy) Swanson, Jeff R. Swanson, and Jimmy R. Swanson; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Swanson; her parents Shelby and Teresa Fleenor; and her sister Shirley (Gray) Fleenor.
