Funeral services for Arthur L. Hickman, 63, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Art died at his home on Sept. 5, 2011. A memorial has been established to the Prairie Haven Hospice or Waggin’ Tail Animal Shelter. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the casket will be closed at the service. Art was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Torrington, the son of John and Lola (Groves) Hickman Sr. He grew up on the family farm near Table Mountain and attended school at Huntley. After school he worked on the family farm and worked campaigns at Holly Sugar. He married Mary Baty in 1971 in Torrington and their were later divorced. He went to work for the Thermopolis School System in 1978 for two years and then came back to Torrington to work at Holly Sugar, now Western Sugar, full-time. He married Sharon Rowley in 1999 in Torrington. He retired in 2008 due to ill health.
Art was a member of the Moose Lodge 2004 since 1993 and was also a member Moose Legion. He enjoyed watching television and cutting firewood.
Art is survived by his wife Sharon of Torrington; a son Jacob Lee Hickman of Torrington; a step-daughter Lena Green of Torrington; four brothers Glen Hickman, John Hickman Jr., Gene Hickman, and Robert Hickman all of Torrington; a sister Lola Eitzel of Scottsbluff, Neb.; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and his kitty, Snoopy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Elizabeth; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Hickman.
