LAGRANGE – Funeral services for Steven N. Williams, 68, were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Frontier School of the Bible Chapel at LaGrange with Pastor Bill Marietta officiating.

Burial followed in the LaGrange Cemetery. All were invited to attend a meal at the LaGrange Community Building following the graveside service. Visitation hours were held on Sunday, May 5 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Colyer Funeral Home Chapel in Torrington, and the casket was open prior to services in LaGrange.

Steve went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Regional West Medical Center after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Memorials in his honor may be directed to either the National Jewish Health at PO Box 17169 in Denver, CO 80217 (by phone at 1-800-423-8891, Ext 6560) or to the Frontier School of the Bible in LaGrange.

Steve was born on June 18, 1944 in Snowflake, Ariz., the son of Troy and Virginia (Brown) Williams. The family lived there until moving to Colorado in the early 1960s. Steve married Carolyn Hubbard on May 12, 1967 in Grand Junction, Colo.

Steve proudly served as Sgt. First Class in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971, where he earned citations as an expert marksman. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He was a man of many trades: driving truck, mining, farming, etc., before moving with his family to LaGrange in 1983.

Steve attended Frontier School of the Bible, and he graduated as valedictorian on May 8, 1987. While attending college, Steve worked for Thane Firestine and then took a job as head custodian with the Goshen County School District in January of 1988. After working in the district for 20 years; first at LaGrange and then later at Southeast, Steve retired in 2008.

Steve proudly owned and operated Green Acres Greenhouse and Green Acres Nursery from 1990 until 2010. He loved to be outdoors, be with his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Steve is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Carolyn, of LaGrange; son Chuck (Debbie) Williams of Palmer, Ala.; son Jim (Laura) Williams of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter Kimberly Williams of Centennial, Colo.; daughter Cheryl (Andy) Raff of Eaton, Colo.; son Tim (Renee) Williams of Torrington; and daughter Melinda (Dee) Greene of Aledo, Texas; four sisters, Carrolyn (Frank) Ridenour of Prineville, Ore.; Lee Lilly of Lakeside, Ariz.; LeNore Baird of Red Devil, Ala.; and Ann Williams of Show Low, Ariz.; a “special daughter,” Randa Williams of Hesperus, Colo.; and 11 grandchildren: Steven, Stefani, Katie, Henry, Simon, Alan, Nathaniel, Vivian, Erin, Emily and Camryn.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Virginia Williams, and an infant granddaughter, Evelyne Greene.
