Thomas Lynn Kittleman

Posted: Friday, Mar 15th, 2013

March 20, 1958-March 11, 2013

WORLAND – Thomas Lynn Kittleman, 54, was called home on Monday, March 11, 2013 due to complication of ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, at Washakie Medical Center in Worland.

Tom was born in Seattle, Wash., March 20, 1958.

Tom graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He worked for Voice of Calvary Ministries in Jackson, Miss. for three years and returned to the Northwest to be in ministry through Presbyterian Outdoor Ministries (a combined camping ministry of the Seattle and Olympia Presbyteries).

In 1990, Tom earned his M.A. in theology through Fuller Seminary Seattle Extension, as well as a year on the Pasadena campus. In the summer of 1989, Tom met Virginia at Buck Creek Camp and married at the camp in September 1990.

Together they attended The Presbyterian School of Christian Education (P.S.C.E.) in Richmond, Va. and received their M.A. in Christian education in 1993. From 1993-96, Tom and Virginia served as co-christian educators at the First Presbyterian Church in Cody.

On October 3, 1999, God called Tom to be ordained as the Pastor at Blackfoot Church of Potomac, Presbyterian Church (USA). From 2003-10, Tom served as pastor at South Goshen Presbyterian Church in Yoder.

After his ALS diagnosis, Tom encouraged Virginia in her career choice and returned to the Big Horn Basin, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and Christian fellowship with the local ministerial association. Although he could not preach in a traditional sense, Tom began a blog, “Tom Tom’s Confession,” in March 2011 and was “amazed” by the response worldwide.

As the Lord’s good and faithful servant, Tom made the most of his situation with ALS and is now at peace, to which we can all say “Praise the Lord.” He was a mentor to many and will be sorely missed.

Tom leaves behind his wife, Virginia, of 22 years, daughters Ashton (age 15) and Leighton (age 12). He is survived by his younger brother, Morris, of Seattle, and his parents, Meredith and Harry, of Cheyenne.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday March 16, 2013 at the Presbyterian Church in Worland with Pastor Guy Helms officiating. Family will greet friends Friday evening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the church. Online condolences may be made at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
