Joan was born April 24, 1928 in Deuel County, Nebraska to John and Della (OíConnor) Belgum. She received her education in Ovid, Colo. She married Kenneth Lempka on Feb. 9, 1948 in Oshkosh, where they made their home in a Dairy Queen building.

They moved to Scottsbluff, Neb., then to Morrill, where they resided in the same house for 54 years.

Joan and Kenneth loved to dance; on occasion, they held dances in their home with family, neighbors and friends.

Joan had a servantís heart. She lived to help others and was very giving of herself and her time to help others. She loved to sew and knit. She was a wonderful seamstress who made all of her childrenís dresses and sweaters and even made her first wedding dress for her first daughter.

She loved to bake bread and would bake about 35 loaves of bread every week, which she would sometimes sell to the neighbors for 35 cents per loaf to help pay for things for the family. She also had a huge garden and canned all the familyís food; an important lesson that she passed on to her children. She was devoted to her family and her brothers and sisters. She was a member of St. Annís Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for 40 years.

Joan especially loved her grandchildren and lived to spend time with them. She loved you with her smile, and there never was a shortage of kisses and hugs from her when family came around. Her walls were plastered with pictures of family, which she cherished dearly. She had a motherly instinct and could tell when things were wrong or right.

She was the family prayer warrior; her faith and love of God was unyielding and contagious, which she shared with her family and friends as a seed to grow in them to pass on to their children. We will miss you. We love you.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Meyer of Cheyenne, and children Lara Nichols, Carrie Meyer and Jacob (Amanda) Meyer; daughter Dianne Barnes of Scottsbluff and children Julee (Jim) Marcoe, Jenda (Steve) Koralewski, Jaci Barnes and Jeanna (Justin) Dedic; daughter Kay (Greg) Jackson of Lyman, Neb. and children Brett (Nicole) Jackson, Jennifer (Jeremy) McCarter, Jason (Jennifer) Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Benjamin (Michelle) Jackson; daughter Kenda Knudsen of Hawk Springs and children Lena (Nathan) Moeller, Levi (Brigette) Knudsen and Jessica (Luke) Wiedman; daughter Deb (Russell) Fullmer of Sidney, Mont. and children Stacy (Valerie) Fullmer, Katie Fullmer and Amy Fullmer; son Larry (Susan) Lempka of Gillette and children Alissa (Kyle) Hunter, Jordan, Paul and Andy (Kelsy) Lempka; daughter Kim (Mark) Schmidt of Mitchell and children Matthew (Lauren Mischke) Schmidt, Brandon (Kim) Schmidt and Brittany (Colton) Lenz; daughter Marsha (Kent) Jones of Casper and children Kylie and Sarah Jones; son Kevin (Jacque) Lempka of Worland and children Zach and Kali Lempka; and son Rob (Bobbie) Lempka of Casper and children Keifer, Ashley, Hope and Micha Lempka; 34 great grandchildren; brother Kennie (Pat) Belgum of California; sisters Betty (Ed) Frank of Colorado and Phyllis Peterson of Colorado; and sister in law Loreen Belgum of Scottsbluff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband Kenneth, sisters Cleo, Vi, Shirley, Dorothy and brother Marvin preceded her in death.
