Virginia Schultz McDonald

GERING, Neb. – Virginia Schultz McDonald of Gering, Neb., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Services will be held at Heritage Estates Chapel in Gering at 9 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery near Morrill, Neb. following the service. In memorial, you may donate to the Wounded Warrior Project or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jones-mortuary.com. The Jones Mortuary of Mitchell is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia was born June 16, 1923 in Morrill to John and Octavia Schultz of West Side Farm Dairy. She grew up in Morrill and graduated high school there in 1941.

Virginia married Donald W. McDonald of Lyman, Neb. in 1941. They soon moved to California, and both their sons, Gerald and Larry, were born there. When Donald joined the Army, Virginia and the boys returned to Morrill.

Virginia worked at the grocery store and then for the elementary school in Mitchell, where the family lived until the mid 1950s, when they moved to Arvada, Colo. Virginia worked for Arvada Savings & Loan and Empire Savings and Loan and retired from Security Pacific Mortgage Co. in Denver.

Virginia and her husband traveled the U.S. and the world with friends and family and always had “the best time ever!” In later years, they spent a number of summers fishing and visiting Jerry and his family in Alaska.

She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Schultz (Duane) Brown of Gering; sisters-in-law: Deloras McDonald Thomas of Bayard, Neb., Marthabelle McDonald Morris of Gering, June McDonald (Bob) Timm of Murietta, Calif. and Sabina McDonald of Pocatello, Idaho; daughters-in-law: Suzy McDonald of Valdez, Alaska, Barbara McDonald of Earlham, Iowa; five grandchildren: Christopher McDonald, Michelle Parkison, Jeannine Pacholski, Jim McDonald and Mike McDonald; 11 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Virginia also has many nieces and nephews and cousins who loved her and will miss her.

Virginia is predeceased by her husband, Donald, and her sons, Gerald and Larry.
