TORRINGTON – Juanita “Jerri” Koza, 83, died Aug. 18 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.
Jerri was born July 2, 1929, in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of Benny and Loda (DeGonzalez) Fritz. She attended school in Baltimore. Jerri married Eugene Koza on April 20, 1946. Gene was serving in the US Navy and the family lived in Florida and Virginia. They moved to Torrington in 1964. Jerri worked campaigns at Holly Sugar and later worked full time as the chief chemist. She followed her sons in their activities and helped her husband to organize baseball in Torrington.
Jerri enjoyed her pets, gardening, shopping and cooking for her family. She liked to travel and visit her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling and various leagues. Jerri also served as secretary/treasurer for the union at Holly Sugar.
Survivors include her four sons and their families; Richard (Kris) Koza, of Chadron, Neb., David Koza, of Pawtucket, R.I., Jeffery (Julie) Koza, of Scottsbluff, and Gary (Melissa) Koza, of Windsor, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; and brother, Milton Jones.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at Colyer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Troy Allen officiating. Private family burial will take place at a separate time.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association and/or the Torrington Baseball programs.
