TORRINGTON – Helen B. Howie, 93, of Gering, Neb., died July 24 at Heritage Estates in Gering.
Helen was born on March 4, 1919, at White Owl, S.D., to Grant and Lyda (Weyer) Simons. She grew up on the family ranch and attended school there.
She married Claude B. Howie on Nov. 9, 1934, at Dupree, S.D. They lived near White Owl and Sturgis, S.D., before moving to Scottsbluff, Neb., in 1946.
Helen worked at home taking care of her family. She liked to dance, play bingo and spent many hours embroidering making lovely things for her family.
Helen’s family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Estates for the wonderful care their mother received.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia (Larry) Zeiler, of Fort Washakie, Sibble (Don) Herman, of Mitchell, Neb., and Diane (Pat) Lenhart, of Torrington; brother, Chick Simons, of White Owl; sister, Jean Ochszmer, of Potlatch, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude; son, Frank Howie; three grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27 at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ted Thode officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Prairie Haven Hospice.
