TORRINGTON – Alice Elaine Pontarolo, 83, died June 19 at Banner Health Community Hospital in Torrington.

Alice was born April 22, 1929, in Minatare, Neb., the daughter of Leroy Hans and Rachael Edna May (Hedgecock) Hendrickson. They moved to Fort Laramie at an early age to a farm southwest of the Old Fort. She attended school in Fort Laramie.

On May 11, 1946, she married Pete Pontarolo in Cheyenne. They lived their married life on a dryland farm south of Fort Laramie, where Pete farmed with his brother Tony. Pete died in 1982.

In March of 1983, she married Loris Gheen and divorced in 1985 but remained friends. Loris died in 2006. In February of 2007, she married Don Sherard in Wheatland. They divorced in 2008, but she remained his companion and caretaker.

Alice liked to tend her yard and flowers, sew, travel, dance and play the slots at Deadwood, S.D. She most of all enjoyed her grandchildren.

Alice is survived by her son, Kenneth Pontarolo and his wife, Debra, of Lingle; grandson, Russell Pontarolo and his wife, Wendy, of Torrington; granddaughter, Christine Fletcher and her husband, Dan, of Cedar City, Utah; great-granddaughter, Madison Ray Fletcher, of Cedar City; and several nephews and nieces, who were all special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete Pontarolo; sister, Betty Collin; half-sister, Edna (Harroun) Dill; half-brothers, Ernest Harroun and Jack Harroun; and granddaughter, Jennifer Kay Pontarolo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 25 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Deacon Rolland Raboin officiating. Cremation will take place following services and private family burial of the ashes will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, June 24 at the funeral home from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home, and friends may send condolences to the family at www.colyerfuneralhome.com.
