Wayside project to silence train horns next week

TORRINGTON – Torrington residents will finally be able to enjoy their long-awaited silent nights beginning early Tuesday morning at 12:01 a.m. when the wayside horn project goes live and BNSF Railways’ trains cease blowing their diesel horns, according to Dan Kline, Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) supervisor of systems planning and railroads.

The BNSF legal staff contacted Kline early Thursday morning to confirm the wayside horns fully complied with parameters outlined in a technical bulletin that was released several days before by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) addressing wayside horns and public crossings, Kline said.
