TORRINGTON – A ferocious wind, cool temperatures and gray clouds created less-than-ideal conditions for Torrington High School’s annual spring golf tournament at Cottonwood Country Club on Friday, April 26.
Torrington golfers nonetheless stepped up to face the powerful wind gusts sending tumbleweeds skittering across the golf course and post solid performances against their rivals.
The Torrington varsity girls captured second place overall with 319 strokes. The Blazer boys’ varsity squad placed fifth at 362.
Three Torrington girls broke into the top 10 for varsity, led by junior Kaleigh Waymire. Waymire shot 102 to tie for sixth place.
Junior Sarah Birdsall garnered seventh place at 108 with fellow junior Madyson Banister taking eighth place with a score of 109.
In the varsity boys’ competition, sophomore Caleb Kelly tied for sixth place, shooting 83. Sophomore Spencer Booth advanced to ninth place at 86.
